BrandTherapy Notes #8: Q1 is done. What’s next for Q2?

Andy Brenits

TL:DR - Q1 is done—and this is where many businesses start to drift. Not because of lack of effort, but because decisions are being made without a clear plan. Using a simple Start, Stop, Continue exercise helps you reset priorities, reduce noise, and make more consistent, on-brand decisions heading into Q2.

Q1 is done. What’s next for Q2?

Close the books. Q1 is done.

Everything went according to plan, right?
Or did something unexpected force you to rethink your direction?

More importantly, do you feel like you’re building momentum… or reacting to what’s happening in front of you?

Q2 is where things start to drift if we’re not careful.

Not because anything is wrong.
But because decisions start getting made without a clear reference point.

The strategy

Most businesses don’t struggle because of a lack of effort.
They struggle because they’re executing without a clear plan.

Not a list of tactics. A plan.

→ A small set of priorities
→ A clear direction
→ An understanding of what matters most 6–12 months from now… and right now

Without that, everything starts to feel equally important.
And when everything is important, decisions get harder, not easier.

This is where a simple exercise can help reset things.

As I’ve said before, this simple exercise is Start. Stop. Continue.

Not as a productivity tool, but as a way to bring clarity back into your decisions.

→ Start what would actually move the business forward
→ Stop what no longer fits or isn’t working
→ Continue what’s already creating momentum

It’s less about doing more.
And more about choosing better.

Why this matters

At the beginning of the year, decisions carry more weight than people expect.

But once the year is in motion, something else happens.

→ Activity builds
→ Commitments stack
→ Momentum, real or perceived, takes over

Without a clear plan, it’s easy to confuse motion with progress.

That’s when:

→ new ideas get added without removing anything
→ priorities shift week to week
→ strategy starts to feel reactive

The result isn’t a lack of effort.
It’s a lack of alignment.

Clarity doesn’t come from adding more.
It comes from narrowing the field so the decisions you make actually have a chance to work.

Or said another way, progress often comes from simplifying.

What to do

Start by writing down everything you’ve done to market or grow your business so far this year.
Don’t judge it. Just get it out of your head and onto the page.

Set aside an hour to focus on this.

Then, create three short lists:

→ Start: What’s missing that would make things easier or more effective?
→ Stop: What’s draining time or energy without a meaningful return?
→ Continue: What’s already working and worth protecting?

Keep each list short.

Then choose one item from each and focus there for the next 30–90 days.

You don’t need a full reset.
You need a clearer filter to help you decide what’s off-brand and what’s on-brand.

Because you can’t stick to the plan… unless you have one.

That’s all we have time for today.

Andy
